The dread's conditioned in you because you're so used to giving into temptation if you watch other people go completely stupid around you that'll keep your hands in your pockets drinking a free coffee stoned as fuck and we can simply just observe all the every 30 minute giveaways at all these casinos within 2 miles of each other there's a dozen of them we could drive around go to one for an hour and then to another and every time you sign up to be on their membership rewards which takes 3 minutes that enrolls you for the free giveaways which is typically money in pretty good denominations
Just don't bring any fucking debit cards or credit cards or anything just bring whatever Christmas cash that you can afford plus whatever you've been given that you didn't need anyway cause you already budget that's what I'm doing I might go down there with $200 or $300 I might go down there with $50 or a $100 I don't know I don't care

The idea sounds compelling like it is a necessary area of research I can't avoid because even contemplating it gives my brain the twisties.
...and not because I'm imagining that very young gymnast in a leotard in order to cope. My current thinking right now is I'm totally okay with gambling away the quarters and nickels and dimes you know the spaceship parts I pick up from janitoring but I am not okay in my conscience with gambling away what other people give me.
However I spent some time thinking about it and I know how many times in the past I didn't see the lesson I was going to learn even though I knew I was about to learn one yet even on the cusp of learning it I still couldn't see it until I actually learned it and then afterwards I'd think holy hell that lesson was worth more than any goddamn thing I ever could have paid to receive it.
So if my brain keeps me from learning this unknown lesson saying to me I am gambling away gifts I can say No brain, I'm about to get the best gift ever by gambling away every gift I received just to see how I would feel after doing it. There must be a lesson there somewhere.
