I am with you on not believing what the powers that be say.

With regards to the shape of the Earth, my observation from 20,000 or 30,000 ft., witnessing a full solar and many lunar eclipses, the pathway of the sun and the moon and how they appear at different times of the year has me believing in the cosmos that includes a globe we live on that moves about a celestial body from which it appears most light, heat and radiation are derived. This same celestial body has other bodies similar to the Earth, and others similar to smaller versions of itself which travel around it, and the ancients termed these, along with Sol and Luna ''planets', travelers, as opposed to the fixed stars they observed. The fact the stars move in predictable patterns and, over time drift, leads me to conclude that most of what we term modern astronomy is trustworthy. It is what this discipline shows about the Creator that has me more convinced in it's veracity.

When God steps in to do anything termed 'miracle', I believe He usually uses what, to the modern 'naked eye' seems 'natural' means. But, it only wears the cloak of what we term natural, even as our spirit wears the cloak of what can be seen as a physical body. But without the spirit, our body quickly returns to the fire, earth, wind and water. The fact our excrement is made of the other four elements is not coincidental.

Modern science is not far from the alchemy and astrology from which it derived. What's different is an absurd notion that the magnificence of creation could have been an accident which begat itself. This stubborn refusal to acknowledge their Creator is the only thing that clouds and corrupts the modern secular world view which has veered scientific 'theories' to impossible conclusions. There SHOULD be a healthy distrust of modern 'scientific conclusion'. But, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Without philosophy that acknowledges a Creator, or at least, a creative force to guide it, science cannot be scientific. A worldview without God cannot be trusted.

(So many subclauses and adjoining thoughts could be written. I will assume mostly agreement with the possible exception of the earth as a globe.)

It is interesting to me to see, in Tolkien's Silmarillion that the world, at the cataclysm which destroys Númenor (which is called, 'coincidentally', according to Professor Tolkien , Atalantïe' in the language of the elves) Middle Earth is 'diminished', by being globed. I find philosophical interest in that point of view. I think maybe our perception in this multifaceted 'reality' actually determines what we will term 'IS'.

We, you and I, know, really only two incontrovertible facts. There is a God. And I'm not Him. That His Name IS 'I AM', may be the third incontrovertible fact (really, the first of three). The rest is potentially subject to debate.

That we exist, to me, proves not only God, but that He Loves.

You brought up the shape of the earth. I will explain to you why I think we do not live on a globe. But first I want to talk about magic spells.

Magic spells are like short cuts to obtaining the gifts God put into this world during the six days of Creation and protected with the Ten Commandments (i.e. a relationship with God, worship, authority, marriage, property, a good name, contentment). God tells us these gifts are ours as a free gift but ever since the Fall they require obedience to Him and high morality in order to maintain. A magic spell is a lie that says, "You can have these gifts contained in the Ten Commandments without being moral. All you have to do is..."

The more people who believe a magic spell, the more power that lie has, and thus the more wealth that lie can harvest. We are motivated to consent to magic spells because believing lies in a system built on lies will lead to incredibly easy success. However, to believe a magic spell is to be decieved, and deception leads to sinful and destrucive thoughts, words, and actions (James 1:14-15), which ultimatlely lead to death.

Jesus rightfully calls this foolishness. Anyone who believes the world's lies and does not take heed of the truth is like "the foolish man who built his house on the sand" (Matthew 7:26). Anyone who builds on a foundation of lies is a fool. If we think we are exempt from making this mistake, think again. Shelly's poem "Ozymandias" reminds us that even the greatest empiric houses this world has ever known were all built on lies. If they hadn't been, they'd still be here.

God does not want us to be fools. He encourages us to keep watch against deception (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, James 1:13-18, Galatians 6:7, Matthew 24:4-5, 1 Corinthians 15:33, et al). God wants us to build our spiritual and physical houses on the solid rock of truth. Therefore we must constantly be on guard against lying magicians and we must be ready to break their spells when we encounter them (1 Peter 3:15-16).

To break a magic spell:

1) Acknowledge that the magic spell is a lie and call it out as such

2) Look away and no longer pay attention to the spell

3) Go tend to your own garden

It is very difficult if not impossible to look away from the spells we believe. Gollum for example never acknowledged that the One Ring was a lie and for this reason he could never look away. We can be like that. Why question the spells that make life easy and us happy and successful? Where will we go if we tear down our house of lies? What will we do? Who will we be?

Most people respond to these questions with fear which is their excuse for staying in their comfort bubble of lies. It's what kept me in mine. My bubble didn't pop until the the police showed up at my door. And even then it took a six year process of jail, prison, and parole before I really began to see how full of lies my life had become. One positive of this process I went through is that it made me extremely hungry for the truth.

In my search for truth--not a politician's promises or a news castor's fear mongering--I went off grid in my research and was challenged by comedian and podcaster Owen Benjamin to question the moon landing, the shape of the earth, and the existence of outer space. These are nonsense questions to anyone who is still in the bubble called "The Space Age." In fact I felt deeply offended the first time I heard Owen deny the moon landing. I almost stopped listening. But I had enough hindsight to know that my *precious* worldview had led to prison, so why not look into something new? I had nothing to lose. I also knew from recent experience that every deception I cut out of my life brought me closer to God. So I went on a quest to slay some wizards.

To acknowledge that a magic spell is a lie that has misshaped our understanding of reality:

1) Evaluate the magic spell's claim about reality

2) Observe reality with your own senses and compare your observations to that claim

3) Determine whether the magic spell's claim is observable or not

Back to your question about the shape of the earth.

We are told the Earth is shaped like a ball with a diameter of 7,926 miles and a circumference of 24,901 miles. We are told the earth's axial rotation at the equator is 1037 mph, and the Earth's orbit around the sun is 66,000 mph, and the sun's orbit around the Milky Way is 514,500 mph, and the Milky Way's speed relative to the Cosmic Microwave Background is 1,300,000 mph.

If all this spinning is really happening, how come we have lakes with surfaces smooth as glass? And how come none of us feel any of this movement, even those who travel from the equator toward the north pole, like the needle on a record, whose spiraling groove is faster toward the center...how come that difference in speed (traveling across the grooves) from very near the north pole of 1 mile of spin per day to the equator at 1,037 miles per hour is never felt by anyone traveling north to south?

Moreover, if the earth is a ball, it should have an observable physical horizon over which boats sink from the bottom up like a pregnant woman's hand eclipsed by her belly as she rubs it, or like cars going over a hill on the horizon of a highway.

To prove the globe claim we must determine if there is any evidence for it and we do that by organizing our observations of the earth's shape into three categories:

1) Observations which prove the Earth is a globe

2) Observations which disprove the Earth is a globe

3) Observations which neither prove nor disprove the earth is a globe

Oftentimes, people who claim to have a proof of the globe later find out that their proof would also work on a flat earth model. Their evidence must fall into category three because it works on both models. This does not mean they are wrong about the shape of the earth, it just means the evidence they thought was a positive turned out to be a null, and the search for a positive observation must continue.

For example, Eratosthenes, we are told, is a Greek who lived around 200 BC and came up with the sticks and shadows experiment to prove the earth is a globe. He looked down a well at high noon when there were no shadows and had a friend 500 miles away at the exact same time measure the shadow of an obelisk. Eratosthenes then used these measurements to calculate the earth's curvature, assuming the Sun's rays are parallel, and came up with a circumference measurement for earth that was very accurate for 200 BC.

But why did he assume the Sun's rays are parallel? The Sun's rays are corpuscular. They spread out. No one has observed otherwise. Ever. Doing simple trigonometry on the angle of the sun's rays has lead some to think the Sun is only 3000 miles away, and perhaps 70 miles in diameter. I am not saying it is, but a Sun that size and distance from a flat earth model would create the exact same results as what Eratosthenes observed. You can do the same experiment on any flat surface with two upright pencils placed a foot apart and one desk lamp. Shine the desk lamp directly over one upright pencil so that is has no shadow while the upright pencil a foot away does. Eratosthenes's sticks and shadows observation neither proves nor disproves a globe earth model because it would also work on a flat earth model where the Sun is much smaller and much closer. Therefore Eratosthenes' proof must fall into category three (Observations which neither prove nor disprove the earth is a globe).

Ideally, as we categorize our data, we would hope to find zero evidences in the second category (Observations which disprove the Earth is a globe) and at least one observation in the first (Observations which prove the Earth is a globe). If there are zero observations which disprove the globe yet hundreds that prove it, then we are obviously living on a globe. All we need is one proof. You brought up three observational proofs for the globe earth model.

1) Observations of Earth from an airplane

2) Observations of Eclipses from Earth

3) Observations of the movements of the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets from Earth

Let's tackle these one by one.

1) Observations of Earth from an airplane

Based on the measurements of the globe model, we can come up with an equation for it's curvature and predict what we would see from the windows of an airplane 35,000 feet above sea level.

First, let's imagine it from surface level. A globe with a diameter of 7,926 miles and a circumference of 24,901 miles should have a parabolic curvature of 8 inches per mile squared when observed from sea level, so that a six foot tall person standing at the shore of a body of water and looking across it should see a physical horizon about three miles away. This is the distance at which the budge of the globe's curvature should keep him from seeing any more of the surface of the water beyond. Any taller objects farther than three miles away, like sail boats, should appear or disappear from the bottom up as they sail toward or away from your subjective horizon line caused by your height and the bulge of the earth.

Adjusting for a 35,000 foot observation height from a plane, the observed physical horizon of the globe underneath should be 229 miles away out every window of the plane no matter which direction the window is facing. The observer shouldn't be able to see any farther than 229 miles, except for maybe the tips of a few distant mountains. Moreover there should be six miles of descent from the observer's eye level in the airplane to the horizon out each window, in every direction, adjusted for distance. What this means is that if the angular resolution of a 6 mile drop over a 229 mile distance is perceptible, then a straight line cannot be drawn through your eyes to the horizon out each side of the airplane's windows. This line would have to be curved downward.

Now let's test it.

It turns out that not only can we see 229 miles, we can see a 1000 miles away. JTolan Media1 used an infrared filter on a 30x zoom telescoping camera to look out an airplane window 28,000 feet above London, Ontario Canada and saw the Hudson Bay 1,000 miles away. Which is odd because the curvature of the earth should have cut off his vision at 229 miles. He should not be able to see that far at all. JTolan's observation fits into catagory two (Observations which disprove the Earth is a globe).

It turns out "seeing too far" is a phenemonon that does not just happen in air planes. I have a Nikon P950 super zoom camera with 83x optical zoom. It's like a telescope but with a digital camera attached to it. I have used it to view accross bodies of water to search for curvature. I have on several occasions seen objects that I should not be able to see, according to the math of the globe earth model. Simply put, the globe model fails because we can see too far.

Also, my observation from a plane is that the horizon is always at eye level no matter which window I look out of. I never have to look down to see it. Though it does look a tad bit curved. Why is that?

Some say the earth appears curved from the height of an airplane because of the height. But the horizon also appears curved from the deck of ship on a large body of water. This is because the appearance of curvature has nothing to do with height but with the distance our eyes can see. We can see the exact same distance no matter which direction we look. Only weather or tall objects obstruct our vision. Out in the middle of the ocean on a clear day, the farthest we can see in all directions is the same distance, which when plotted on a graph makes a circle. This is the circle of how far we can see. It is our mind control programming that makes us think the circle of how far we can see is really the physical horizon line of the globe. It isn't. Observations of curvature of this sort fall into category three (Observations which neither prove nor disprove the earth is a globe).

2) Observations of Eclipses from Earth

We are told eclipses occur when the earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon and we can see that the shadow crossing over the face of the Moon and caused by the Earth arrives and exits with the same angle of curvature, as if it is the same "cookie bite" shape the entire time. But the shadow of one sphere onto the surface of another sphere isn't a constant circular angle. It is parabolic and the angle changes. You can test this on a sunny day with a basket ball and a baseball. Cast the basketball's shadow onto the baseball and that is a good model of a lunar eclipse. As the basketball's shadow moves across the surface of the baseball, the shadow will begin oblong like a tight parabola before opening up the angle of curvature and then closing it again as the shadow exits. The fact that we actually see an unchanging curved shadow over the surface of the Moon, both during eclipses and during it's regular cycle, proves the shadow is not caused by the interaction of three globes in space.

Also, if eclipses really did occur from the perfect alignment of the Sun, Earth, and Moon, then we should not be able to see the Sun and an eclipsed Moon both above the horizon at the same time. Yet not only can we see this (it's called a selenelion eclipse), but the shadow on the Moon often arrives from the top of the Moon when it should be arriving from bottom up, if the Earth were causing it.

The bottom line is this: eclipses of the Moon, though mysterious, are not caused by the earth's shadow. I don't know what cause them. No one does. Flat earthers have theories. Some follow Vedic Astronomy which speaks of two dark bodies in the sky called Rahu and Ketu, which they claim cause the eclipses, but I cannot go up there myself to observe it. No one can. Eclipses remain a mystery. All we can do with a mystery is make is smaller by removing what the mystery is not with a series of negative claims. Since the shadows are not like the shadow of one globe onto another, we can make the negative claim that eclipses are not caused by the Earth passing between the Sun and the Moon.

Observations of the Eclipse fall into a fourth category: Not Applicable.

3) Observations of the movements of the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets from Earth

Using my P950 super zoom, I have looked at the Moon, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter, along with several stars. The moons of Jupiter are beautiful. All four look like flat gray marbles which reflect light back at the observer. The moons really do look front-lit, with a hot spot, as if they are out there in space reflecting the distant Sun back at us. Jupiter itself is much brighter than the moons. It's surface is uniformly lit, and does not appear to have a hot spot as the moons do, as if perhaps it is it's own light. When I adjust for ISO on my camera the brightness dims and I can see the color bands on Jupiter. Jupiter is a dull orange, like the Sun as it sets, and the bands are darker oranges. I do not see any curvature in the color bands at all, which means that if Jupiter is a globe, I must be viewing it from a near perfect perpendicular angle. Which I just might be doing. It would be easy to imagine Jupiter and its moons as globular mechanical clockwork automatons dancing in the sky to help us gauge times and seasons and epochs.

I spent a week looking at the moons of Jupiter moving in their orbits. Each night the four moons were in completely different places. They move that fast. Some nights I could only see three of the moons and I assume that is because one of the moons was on the other side of Jupiter at the time of my viewing. It is very easy to imagine that Jupiter is a model for our solar system and that we are like one of Jupiter's moons. The only problem with this very interesting thought experiment is that it breaks a very simple logic rule. Looking up does not tell you what you will see when you look down. What is up is up. What is down is down. We cannot say that the earth is an orbiting globe because Jupiter's moons appear to be orbiting globes. You could no more say that the floor is curved because you looked up and saw that the lightbulbs in the ceiling are curved. This is very bad logic. To prove earth curvature, we must look at the earth and not at anything else, particularly the lights in the sky.

You ended your letter with an interesting point about Tolkien's Silmarillion. Tolkien said in his mythology that Middle Earth was flat in the beginning but was 'diminished' by being globed at the time when Numenor fell, a moment in Tolkien mythology that could be correlated to the moment in Greek mythology when Atlantis sunk, or to the moment in biblical history when God sent the Great Flood.

I remember as a teen reading this about Middle Earth history and thinking Tolkien was nuts. Why would he put such a nonsense story into his mythology? How can a flat plane become a globe?

We were told as children that the globe model was proven by Columbus in 1492. Children today in "No Child Left Behind" schools are being taught it was the Greeks 2,000 years ago that figured this out, which means 1,500 years of veracity were added to the globe Earth model in one 30 year generation! Actual history could not be farther from offering true veracity to the globe Earth claim.

All ancient religions, including the Old Testament Hebrews, held that the Earth is flat. Many claimed there was a solid dome above Earth. The globe model was not a thing widely accepted 2,000 years ago by the Greeks. Nor was the globe lie proven in the late 1400s and widely accepted after that. The globe lie might have had it's origins in the 1400s, but it did not gain widespread acceptance until the 1920s. Yes, just one hundred years ago. Don't you remember Bugs Bunny throwing a baseball around the earth in that 1940s propaganda cartoon still trying to prove the globe model in the 1940s? Did you know the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was a Copernican denying synod until the 1940s? Did you know this change to globe acceptance occurred so recently? I didn't. I swallowed the Kool-Aid in kindergarten and thought people believed the Earth was a globe since 1492. Nothing could be farther from the truth. When I read German Lutheran theologians from the late 1800's and early 1900's such as Franz Pieper and C.F.W. Walther, I find that they were all stationary earthers who denied the Copernican model. So did Martin Luther.

Here is a quote from Martin Luther on the matter in Table Talks.

"There was mention of a certain new astrologer who wanted to prove that the earth moves and not the sky, the sun, and the moon. This would be as if somebody were riding on a cart or in a ship and imagined that he was standing still while the earth and the trees were moving. [Luther remarked] “So it goes now. Whoever wants to be clever must agree with nothing that others esteem. He must do something of his own. This is what that fellow does who wishes to turn the whole of astronomy upside down. Even in these things that are thrown into disorder I believe the Holy Scriptures, for Joshua commanded the sun to stand still, and not the earth [Josh. 10:12].” Luther, Martin. Luther’s Works. Vol 54. Table Talk, ed. Helmut T. Lehmann, Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1967.

Here is a quote from C.F.W. Walther on the matter.

A question was raised about the Copernican System and Joshua 10:12-14 where the sun revolves around the earth. To this Walther answered: "This is a part, not an article of the doctrinal structure. Now, if someone cannot see that Holy Scripture wants to teach this here and in other passages, he can indeed still be a believing Christian. However, one who believes that the author of the Book of Joshua meant to write about the sun’s orbit but was himself in error in this matter, he makes the foundation of all doctrinal theology, Scripture itself, uncertain and therefore attacks the foundation. But one who thinks that Joshua is speaking optically, as the Copernicans also do when they say, “The sun is rising,” “The sun is setting"- one cannot condemn him. In this connection the question was again raised whether it can be admitted that the Bible speaks optically. Answer: "This teaching, whether the sun revolves around the earth or the earth around the sun, is not an article of faith, but at most only an object of faith, a part of the doctrinal structure of Holy Scripture. [But] because such (optical) language is unworthy of God, in that He would then be using a human way of speaking that contains an error, one must regard such a person as being in error but not as a heretic. But on the other hand it is also certain that such a person is setting up a dangerous hermeneutical principle, in that, you see, this statement is not only given to Joshua to say, but is also used by the author of this [book of] Scripture in the same way in verse 13—a principle whose consequences make the Bible unreliable for him...." Here is a quote by Dr. H. A. Daniel that Franz Pieper used on p. 473 of his three volume set Christian Dogmatics:

"The cosmic systems, all of them without exception, are not based on experience, for this would demand a position outside the earth, but on conclusions and combinations. All of them therefore are and remain hypotheses." Franz Pieper, Christliche Dogmatik, Vol. 1b. St. Louis, MO, Concordia Publishing House, 1924, page 473.

It turns out the Earth became a globe in the minds of the common people much more recently, like during the time of Tolkien, like right after WWI. The final push toward full acceptance of global thinking came after WWII when NASA took Nazi scientists, including Verner Von Braun, to America to head our rocket propulsion system and our mind control systems. In English NASA, In German NAZI. In Hebrew ASN (nasah: to rise up) and also the Hebrew pun of that word, ShHN (nachash: to deceive).

Maybe the silly nonsense reason why Tolkien included this idea of flat Middle Earth becoming a globe is because he experienced it during his lifetime. Maybe the globe lie has only been widely held since NASA faked the Moon landing. History is very easy to fake and/or erase and Tolkien, I think, hid a piece of our actual history in his mythology.

So what did he mean when he said the globing of Middle Earth 'diminished' it? This gets at the question, "Why the lie?" Why would anyone lie about the shape of the Earth--particularly our "global" leaders and authorities? The answer is simple. They are hiding God from us. And possibly more land.

To the more land issue, it's possible that Antarctica is not a continent on the bottom of the globe but the shoreline of all the world's oceans in which sit all the world's continents. We are under the melted donut-shaped path of the Sun. What is beyond Antarctica? Is there more land out there? The alleged continent of Antarctica on the bottom of the globe is 13,000 miles in circumference but Captain Cook said it took him three years and over 60,000 miles to circumnavigate. Maybe ANTarctica is not arched like a circular continent but ANTarched like a shoreline that surrounds us. It's possible there is way more land out there in Antarctica that is being hidden from the general public.

It's also possible the firmament touches down out there somewhere. I haven't been there or heard any reputable reports, so I don't know.

The globe lie has diminished the scope and understanding of our physical realm and our desire and agility to explore it. Is this what Tolkien meant? And why did Hitler go to Antarctica? And why did all the nations of importance in 1959 sign the Antarctic Treaty which prohibits all people and corporations from independently exploring or establishing any footing in Antarctica? Why is this the only unbroken treaty in the history of all treaties? And why did MORE countries sign onto it in the ensuing decades? Why can't anyone even question the treaty until 2041? And why are boats turned away at gun point when they get too close?

More significant than hidden land, the globe lie hides God which diminishes our enjoyment of His gifts He hid away in the First Table of the Ten Commandments. The globe lie turns us into materialists who think we got here when nothing exploded and created everything. We crawled out of the ensuing pond scum, turned into monkeys, and lost all our hair. The space age lie offers zero knowledge of our relationship with God, no reason to worship Him, and tells us our only purpose on Earth is to fuck. Preferably in the butt.

The globe lie turns us into narcissistic nihilist naval gazers looking for the perfect spot in which to commit seppuku.

The Bible says the skies declare His handiwork (Psalm 19:1), but most churches today do not even understand that the heavens rotate around us, which proves our primary position in the cosmos a bit doesn't it? Globe believers claim were are one tiny speck among nine in one solar system among billions in the northern arm of one galaxy among trillions. Maybe this is what Tolkien meant. The globe lie seems to have diminished our connection to God.

The globe lie is a magic spell that harvests both fear and hope. "Invaders from Mars!!" we feared in the 1930s. "Pew! Pew!" said fans of Buck Rogers in the 1940s. "I'm here for the space babes!" said everyone at a 1950's drive in. "To the moon!" we shouted in the 1960s. "To a galaxy far far away!" we cheered in the 1970s. "The Horror!!!" we cried in the 1980s when the Challenger explosion took a young female teacher. "We're ALL gonna die!!!!!!!" cried the 1990s under the constant blast of asteroid-Armageddon-propaganda movies. "Our salvation is in the the past!!!" hoped everyone watching Ancient Aliens in the 2000s. "To Mars!" said the 2010s. "The CIA just released black vault UFO documents!!" shouted the 2020s.

The space age magic spell ages with the ages and is part of our ethos and it makes the farmers of man rich beyond imagination. But it hasn't been here for 2,000 years and it's never about the money. I found the following poem in the preface of "America and the World War" by Theodore Roosevelt. It speaks for itself. There is a lot of treasure to be found in Project Gutenberg History and Literature they have on the tablets they give us in prison.

PRAYER FOR PEACE

Now these were visions in the night of war:

I prayed for peace; God, answering my prayer,

Sent down a grievous plague on humankind,

A black and tumorous plague that softly slew

Till nations and their armies were no more—

And there was perfect peace ...

But I awoke, wroth with high God and prayer.

I prayed for peace; God, answering my prayer,

Decreed the Truce of Life:—Wings in the sky

Fluttered and fell; the quick, bright ocean things

Sank to the ooze; the footprints in the woods

Vanished; the freed brute from the abattoir

Sweet as young starlight. Rose to heaven again

The mystic challenge of the Nazarene,

That deathless affirmation:—Man in God

And God in man willing the God to be ...

And there was war and peace, and peace and war,

Full year and lean, joy, anguish, life and death,

Doing their work on the evolving soul,

The soul of man in God and God in man.

For death is nothing in the sum of things,

And life is nothing in the sum of things,

And flesh is nothing in the sum of things,

But man in God is all and God in man,

Will merged in will, love immanent in love,

Moving through visioned vistas to one goal—

The goal of man in God and God in man,

And of all life in God and God in life—

The far fruition of our earthly prayer,

“Thy will be done!” ... There is no other peace!
